Bridals/Groomals and Drivers Licenses

So we got our bridals/groomals done tonight!! i think getting ready was much more fun for me, because i got to get my hair and nails done and i felt so pretty!!! (She really is!! -John) I had a salon do my hair this time, but a salon probably won't be open early enough before the wedding, so i asked my old roommate brittany to do my hair for me, but this is what i'm going to have my hair look like:

After all the pictures were all done, i snuck a kiss!!! (john didn't want to kiss me with my lipstick on...but i don't blame him ha ha...it's all sticky)

Hee hee heee....

And another bit of good news, i passed my road skills test for my drivers' license!!!!!! hurray!!!!! So john and i will go to the DMV this week and i will FINALLY get my license!!! i can now join the adult world and drive on my own!! and i made it before i'm 20!! yesssssss.... :)

And we named her....Sheila

And Bertha. Okay, let me explain. My parents gave us a GPS system a while back and we used it quite a bit this weekend, traipsing all over San Diego looking for apartments to suit our fancy for when we move down there in August. We must have looked at 8 or 9 different complexes and finally narrowed it down to our top 3 choices. We then ranked those 1 to 3, and we'll be watching for availability in August when we finally get down there. hopefully it all works out!! It was a very productive trip though.

but let me get back to the GPS - it's very amusing to listen to the GPS as it tells john where to drive next. There are two female voices that it uses: one to indicate the directions traveled and whether to turn right or left. The other names the street or exit that we enter (exit that we enter...ha ha ha) The first voice is rather pleasant, john named her Sheila. The other is deeper, and so we decided on Bertha.
So a typical command from the GPS goes something like this:

Sheila: In 3 miles exit on the right onto...
Bertha: Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard

Only Bertha can't speak spanish. Where as the proper pronunciation emphasizes the 3rd syllable of Penasquitos, Bertha stresses the 2nd. It's really funny. but we don't talk about it in front of Bertha because it might hurt her feelings.

But anyway, our weekend in San Diego was great, along with apartment hunting we walked on the beach, walked all over various shopping centers, and ate food at IKEA. (one of my favorites!) As I said, we decided to concentrate on three complexes, and we'll see what happens. I just got back in this afternoon from San Diego, after almost missing my flight because the lines were going OUT THE DOOR and then somehow i got stuck in the special needs/families/medical/hazardous substances security line (eek!) and ran over to my gate, getting there just as they were finishing boarding my group. whew!! John is still in California, and will finish up one more day of work at his parents and drive back to provo on tuesday. Summer term starts tomorrow and i don't have my books yet...oops! wish me luck!!! ;) I hope tuesday gets here sooooooon ha ha

San Diego, here we come!!!!

Hurray! After a long week apart, ;) John and i will meet up in San Diego tonight!! We'll spend the weekend looking at and researching apartment complexes, hoping to find somewhere nice to live after we get married! But first, i have to make it through 2 final exams and get to the airport!! eek! but i'm very excited to see john again!

canyon exploring and rainbows

Last Sunday we went exploring at a canyon in Springville, which we later learned was called Little Rock Canyon. Here we are being adventurous explorers :) We hiked up for a while and then sat and listened to the sounds of the canyon, the birds and the wind and we looked at wildflowers. It was a lot of fun!

John was so excited to be exploring after his nasty fall off a cliff while rock climbing that got him 9 stitches in his right leg. (needless to say, he got in BIG trouble for that, ha ha ha) This is his adventure pose ;)

I haven't really been hiking in a really long time, so although you might not be able to tell in this picture...i was exhausted!!! ;)

On a different note, the weather in Utah has been BIZARRE with random thunderstorms and lightning. today we had another crazy storm, but then later in the afternoon, the sun came out, but it was still raining. weird. but this was the result - one of the brightest rainbows i've ever seen! there was another one right next to this one, but it wasn't nearly as bright or vivid as this one. i wish i could have captured it as bright as it was. but this will have to do:

It was beautiful. But it's moments like this that i really miss john while he's gone. He's still at home painting the trim and being very productive, so that's good, but i can't wait to see him on wednesday! yay!

losing my mind!!

well, not really.

okay. maybe kind of.

today at work i totally forgot to seal the transcripts before i sent them out (that makes them official) luckily i caught it before i sent them out, but not before i stuffed them in envelopes and sealed those...so i got to open them all AGAIN with the envelope opener, which is actually really fun ;) but more work. sad.

but good news!!! our announcements came in today! after causing my mom much stress because i was supposed to receive the package yesterday, but no one in the apartment checked the mail, so it got to me today. but i got them!! hurray!!!!!!! and they look SOOOOOO good. happy day!!! 64 days till the wedding!! WOOT!

John is awaaaaay!

John has gone to California for a week and a half before i get to see him :( We have still been unsuccessful in finding him a job here in Utah for the summer, so he's gone home to work for his parents for a little bit, and then as soon as finals are over for Spring term here for me, i'm flying down and we're meeting in San Diego to look for an apartment! yay! but in the meantime, i might have several posts up here because i'm bored ;) This will be the longest we haven't seen each other since we started dating back in january, and although i have already been twice as productive with my schoolwork, it isn't nearly as fun as having my sweet boy around.

Pictures!

So i think i've almost figured out how to get cool pictures up here :)

Hurray!!! This is when we went to the Red Butte Gardens up at the University of Utah a couple saturdays ago. We went on an "all natural" kick that weekend, going to see the gardens after going to 2 farmers markets and then having an all veggie and pasta soup for dinner. mmmmm

Here i am underneath the beautiful wisteria archway

John had to get reeeeeeaaalllly close to the flowers to smell them...poor guy, bad allergies...

Sweet!! I've finally figured this out!! and it was really easy...it turns out... :)

Hurray!

Yay!! we've started a blog!! It will probably be most me (ashley) up here, but i'm sure john will have some input every once in a while :)

Still trying to work out the kinks in blogging, i have no idea what i'm doing, so it's a work in progress.
