FINALLY!
If you didn’t know, we had almost been plunged into eternal winter. But I think that we are finally done with snow. I can’t believe I’m saying this either. I love the snow! But seriously. It snowed on the 30th. It was getting to be a little ridiculous.
And so, time for an update.
*We went to the Newseum in DC last month and it was super cool. It’s an interactive museum dedicated to journalism and it’s effect on history and society. Nathan did really well. I was pretty nervous about doing a day trip with him and while he refused to sleep while we were out (which I had expected) he was so good for our trip.
*John went to Chicago for a few days for work last month as well and that was probably the longest week EVER. Nathan also decided to be a crazy person every night and cry for a while before going to sleep. It’s like he knew John wasn’t going to be home that night and wanted to torture me. Oh the injustice of it all…
*I’ve found that Nathan loves the washer and dryer. I mean, at this age, it’s as good as TV!

*Dressing Nathan up for church on Sundays really does make church more enjoyable for me when I’m wrangling the wiggle-monster during Relief Society. (I had him in his cute brown newsies cap too)

*I’ll give it its own blog post, but I made an Amy Butler Weekender Bag. It’s like a sewing rite of passage. It was a beast. Between cutting (and cutting and cutting…) and pinning and sewing through something like 100 layers of material I think it took me about a week. It’s actually really good for my first try, but I feel like I need to make another to get the hang of it and fix some of the issues I had this time around. Might be a while though, even with getting almost everything on sale, it was NOT cheap to make. It’s awesome though, and holds sooo much stuff. I used it when we went to my parent’s last weekend and it held everything but my shoes. Pretty schweet.

*Babyproofing. Really need to get on that.

*With the exception of that one time in college when my roommates and I stayed up (way too) late and put warm, raw cookie dough (it was warm because I’d nuked the butter for a little too long) onto vanilla ice cream and made ourselves sick because we ate so much of it, Wegmans has – hands down – the best chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. And I’ve tried a lot of cookie dough ice creams. It’s so rich and creamy and has the highest ratio of cookie dough to ice cream that I’ve ever seen. So go get some. It’s awesome.
*So that babyproofing thing. Almost all of our storage in the living room is open shelving. And the picture above happens multiple times a day. Everyday. Though most of the time I just leave it on the floor until he goes to bed knowing Little Man will just pull everything down again. So something needs to be done. Involving doors. That can lock. My solution? (You can bet it’s not the easiest, but as of right now it’s the cheapest. And coolest.)
We build this:

ana-white.com is a website FULL of free furniture plans. So last weekend we went down to my parent’s house to get started. We’re not building the whole thing at once (Relax! We’re not that crazy. Just mostly crazy. And it’s mostly me. Because you know, it was my idea. Okay. Moving on.), we started with the console piece – the middle section of the bottom half with the 3 doors and 3 drawers. It’s coming along pretty well, I’ll definitely have a post about it when we’re done. I’m really excited. But we can only work on it at my parent’s house. There’s definitely no room here to work and have a safe place for Nathan. And my dad has all the tools. I’m hoping to get it pretty close to being done – the console piece, anyway – by the end of the month. We’ll see if that actually happens.
*Excited for General Conference this weekend! We’ve got our waffles, strawberries and ice cream ready! ;)
*John is such a snack stealer! Before he left for Chicago, I had 2 bags of goldfish crackers (parmesan flavored, yum) for snacking while he was gone. So I’m not a huge snacker and didn’t really eat much of them while he was gone, but on days like today, for example, I forgot to eat lunch – it was kind of a busy day and Nathan wasn’t napping well and he was a little crazy – and I needed a little something to get me through to dinner and I didn’t want to eat too much before dinner…and all my goldfish were gone! I didn’t eat them…and I know that Nathan didn’t eat them. Which really only leaves… All accusations have been denied, however.
*Speaking of Nathan not eating things, I’m really trying to get him to eat more finger foods. He’s not really a fan (we struggled with introducing purees too – definitely a texture eater), but he has started to refuse to eat his rice cereal. I’ve been pretty bad about actually offering finger foods for him to try, but I am also terrified of him choking (And yes, I’ve taken an infant/child CPR class. I know what to do. I’m just terrified of having to use it). I’m trying to get past it though. And baby food is expensive. If you remember, he didn’t like my homemade attempts, so that option was out. But in the last couple of days, he’s been doing pretty well with it. He’s had peas, cheddar cheese, and some pasta. I keep offering him bread, but he mostly flings it off his tray. Oh well. But he tried some black beans from my plate tonight! That was super exciting.

*Little Man is also cutting 2 more teeth, and it has been BRUTAL. More so then his other teeth, I think. He’d never been congested with his teething before, but he’s been congested, his longest naps were about 40mins (I thought I was going to go insane) and he was just tired and cranky. I think those 2 top teeth have finally peeked through, so I hope we’re just about done with this round. Oof.
*He remains our cute Little Man! But he’s getting so big! Where did my baby go?!

We’ve got lots going on this month! But hopefully I’ll be able to blog more than last month. I do like blogging, you know. So I hope you enjoy reading it ;) Have a great weekend!
