Tiffany’s Themed Bridal Shower Cake and Cookies

It’s been a loooooong time since I’ve made a real cake but I had to opportunity to make one for a bridal shower this past week and while it meant a LOT of late nights (because I can only work on it when the kids are sleeping), it was fun to get back into cake decorating a little bit.

**I’m going to apologize ahead of time for the bad pictures, again, I’m working at night and the lighting isn’t so great and I was pressed for time as it was – while the week went smoothly for the most part, I had some major mom brain moments ;)

IMG_2522The inside was vanilla cake with a chocolate ganache filling – Yum!
IMG_2524I was really happy with the way it turned out, especially considering I don’t sink my hands into fondant all that often these days. I think the rosebud belt was my favorite detail.

I also made cookies as favors. I had to do some research on how to get that Tiffany blue, but I think I got pretty close!! (sorry if you can’t tell on your computer screen, I promise it was close, ha ha)

IMG_2504IMG_2505All packaged up and ready to go!

I loved having the chance to do a cake again! Maybe I’ll need to bust out the fondant again for the boys’ birthdays this year…hmm…we’ll see… ;)

Easter Celebrations 2017

We had a whole weekend of family fun for Easter this year. It was soooo nice to have so much family time!

Ever since John started working out here he’s had Good Friday off, so we planned a trip to Port Discovery for the kids. It was still pretty busy because it was everyone else’s spring break, but it wasn’t too crowded and we still spent a good 4 hours there.

They still had the Thomas exhibit up, so that was really fun for the boys.

Saturday we had some Easter activities. After lunch we decorated cookies. Well, Nathan decorated cookies and Spencer ate his way steadily through his supply of frosting and sprinkles. And maybe a cookie. Or two.

IMG_2417IMG_2421IMG_2423IMG_2425IMG_2426IMG_2427IMG_2429IMG_2430
After we got them all hopped up on sugar we put them down for naps and quiet time (Parenting Win – “You just go sleep all that off, buddy”). After that we got them all set up to color eggs. It was a little tricky with Spencer, I was mostly trying to make sure he didn’t spill all the colors all over the place and I only had one whisk that could fit the egg inside and into the jars we use for the color. We did come up with the idea to color on the eggs with crayons and he seemed to like that.

I’d only boiled a dozen eggs so we finished with that pretty quickly. John ended up taking the boys to the playground afterwards to get some extra energy out and so that I could work on dinner. Spencer came back looking like a chimney sweep, he’d faceplanted in the dirt so many times – good thing they were getting baths!

Easter morning the boys got to open up their “Easter presents”. They mostly got books (I really didn’t make an effort on candy – I’m hitting up the Easter clearance tomorrow, I’ve been waiting ALL YEAR for my starburst jelly beans!!) They also got matching Easter ties – because matching ties is seriously one of my most favorite things about having boys ;) John even got one too!
IMG_2454IMG_2458IMG_2459IMG_2462IMG_2463

And I tried SO HARD to get a cute Easter picture of them matching. SO HARD friends. My kids are impossible ;)

I thought maybe adding John would help. Nope.

So we tried again later. We got some pretty hilarious ones though.

They amazingly kept their hats on at church. Nathan actually loved his and didn’t want to take his off and now that Spencer wants to be just like Nathan, well, that helped, haha.

We had a busy day at church and then we went over to some friends for an Easter egg hunt and a potluck dinner. (I forgot my camera for the egg hunt! so sad! But John strapped his GoPro to Nathan’s head for the egg hunt so we have some exclusive footage from his point of view). Then they basically had candy for dinner. And some strawberries. ;)

It has been such a fun weekend and looking at these pictures as I’ve been working on this post makes me so grateful for this crazy little family of mine. And I am so grateful for a Savior and Redeemer who made it possible to live again with our loved ones. I know He lives!

Happy Easter!

21 Months!

I seriously can’t believe we’re only 3 months away from his birthday already. That’s just crazy talk.

*He is quite the little copycat. He seriously loves doing whatever big brother is doing and it’s so funny to watch him imitate Nathan. One of my favorite things he does is put on Nathan’s pirate costume and run around saying “Yo Ho Ho! Yo Ho Ho!!”
IMG_2355

*SUCH a chatterbox! We came home from my parent’s after General Conference weekend at night so we got in late, but Spencer stayed up the entire 2-hour ride and just gabbed. Well, and cried when he’d drop his stuffed puppy, but mostly just talked and talked and talked and talked well after he should have been asleep. But he always seems to have something to say and as always, it’s fun to hear his growing vocabulary. He’s even starting to string words together. Sometimes ;)
IMG_2357

*Falls asleep in the weirdest positions. Several times we’ve seen him in the monitor with the pillow on top of him or he’ll prop himself up with his pillow against the walls of the crib and fall asleep that way. Silly boy.
IMG_0654

*He asks me to eat ALL DAY. He drives me nuts. You’d think I was starving him based on his near constant requests for food. But then when I sit him down to eat for meals, he hardly eats anything!! I never know what to do with him in that respect. Still sooooo picky. He’s doing this thing where he sticks out his tongue when he puts stuff in his mouth so it just falls right back out. No idea what that’s all about.
IMG_2360

*He’s developed a bad habit of scratching at people’s faces. It started out as swiping my glasses off my face but now he’s swiping at all of our faces. Nathan takes it particularly personally ;)
IMG_2376

*When he’s particularly vehement about something, he’ll say “NOOOOooooo!!” and close his eyes really tight. Every time he does this it reminds me that I’m insanely jealous of eyelashes. They are SO LONG! He also likes to spin in circles with his eyes closed. Ooof.
IMG_2370

*He LOVES Lightning McQueen and Thomas the Tank Engine. Of course he started liking them simply because Nathan liked them but now he definitely loves them on his own. He gets so excited when he finds something with either of them on it.
IMG_2378

*So naturally he loves to read Thomas books but when we read them, he spends most of the time pointing at the different trains and saying “who that?!?”. When we tell him, he says “Oh”. Repeat several times per page ;)
IMG_2368

*Still loves taking baths, and doesn’t like wearing clothes. With the weather getting warmer it’s not too much of a problem, but when he’s only in a diaper, he likes to try to push his diaper off. Eeek! And yes, he’s totally done it once when he had a stinky diaper. bleeeeeecccchhh
IMG_0653

*While his vocabulary gets bigger all the time, his conversation skills consist of saying “Hi”. And that’s about it. When we drive in the car, I’m usually hearing a steady stream of “Hi Mommy” and he expects a “Hi Spencer” to every. single. one. If I am distracted (because, you know, I’m driving), he just gets louder until I finally respond.

*This kid is so hilarious. He is constantly making us laugh with his crazy antics. We just love him!IMG_0656
