So John and I went over to the sunflower market (which is THE BEST place to get good produce for cheap...yum!) and outside the building there was a marquee looking thing with some ads on their sales and on one line it read:
LOCALEGGS $.99DOZ
I read it and go, "How can you have low calorie eggs? Aren't they all the same? I mean, how does that even work?"
John looks up at the sign and asks if that was what i was reading. "yeah..."
"ashley, that's 'local' eggs, not low calorie eggs"
"oh"
hee hee so that was my blonde moment for the day. :)

Who says you can't play with your food?
So i haven't been able to put these up, but after we made bridges with dave and jessica, we had a LOT of gum drops left over. So we made more structures. ;)
This is John's:
This is mine (I got a little carried away...)
Then tonight I surprised john with three slips of paper, the one he chose would determine what we would do tonight. With pioneer day being tomorrow, we have no work or school! yay!!
So he picked paper #3...which was ICE CREAM SCULPTING!

And this is what I ended up with ;)

Which promptly capsized as soon as they were put in the water. Oh well. John's came tumbling under the bridge and mine was no where to be found. lost to davy jones' locker....oh well. :)

Which ended up looking kind of evil...
So John ate his head. The End.
My skittle roof shingles kept falling off!!
And this is what I ended up with ;)
After the messy art of ice cream sculpture, we found we had time to do another thing on one of the paper slips. The next one john chose was CUCUMBER BOAT RACING!
I named my boat the "Crunchy Captain"

We chose only the most faithful of gummi worms to steer our ships

What to do when your bridal shower gets postponed...
Hang out with your fiance of course!!! Even though we do that ALL the time anyway ;)
So even though we told the ward about the informal "bridal dessert night" my roommate was throwing me, it turns out everyone (okay, maybe not EVERYONE, but a large percent) went out of town...or had a date...or something or other. oh well. it's going to be on Tuesday now.
I made peanut butter balls and brownies for it to help out with the refreshments, now let's hope they make it to Tuesday! (John might eat them) I had john help me put the chocolate on them...we got a little messy...and it was kind of my fault, okay, i smeared chocolate on john's face. then took a picture. see?
Sometimes john wonders how great this blog is... ;)
So as we had been planning on the bridal shower, we found we had no plans for tonight!!! After some heavy duty brainstorming, we invited John's cousin and her husband, Jessica and Dave Clyde, to come over and have a bridge building contest. We had nothing but gum drops and toothpicks to make it. Oh, and two cups.
Our bridge won!! hurray! it held 3 knives and 2 forks!
We were quite proud of ourselves. :) Then we played the BEST German game, Ligretto and i succeeded in keeping my score in the positive numbers! hurray! It was probably one of the most INTENSE ligretto games EVER. Dave and Jessica were neck and neck, and then all of the sudden, John caught up without any warning! The winner must get 100 points...everyone else was in the 80's and 90's, i was content in the 30's and 40's. It was a nice place to be. :)
Well, i've survived 3 tests, and john survived four days of 3pm to 1am production work. 1 test on monday and 28 days to the wedding! WOO HOO!

"Thank you for finishing my sentences..." "-it's true love"
Hurray! We have "un"-officially signed on an apartment! At our number one choice of complexes too! we sent in some of the deposit and our applications and we have the apartment on hold! yay! we'll have a place to live!! i can't even tell you how relieved i am! i'm so grateful that this has worked out so far. Now we just need to get some of the essentials for the new place. like a bed and a table w/ chairs. ;) We not exactly sure when we'll get all that fun stuff, especially as we won't have a car the first day and half after we get married. and then we'll be at DISNEYLAND for the next two days, then off to John's parents' place for the open house. Then we'll come home to our new apartment...with nothing in it!! ;) we might have to do some IKEA shopping while we're honeymooning!! ...not that i mind...
John has also found some work through the temp agencies he's applied with, so that's been very good for us. He's been a receptionist and a caterer all in one week!! And this week he'll be working in production for the people that make the tables for all the church buildings around here. The bummer is that he'll be working from 3pm to 1am. eek! so it'll be a busy week! But yay for working!!
So apart from the fact that I have four tests this week (i only have three classes...yeah, you do the math, is that even legal?!) the weekend went pretty well! We attended a reception for one of John's old mission companions and admired the fancy decorations. My favorite part was the huge candy jars to fill your party favor box. ;)
On the way home we stopped at IKEA (LOVE it) and sat on numerous chairs and couches ;) When were really were on our way home, john seemed to be having trouble finding words to finish his sentences. I managed to supply most of the ones he was looking for, hence the title of this post:
John: thank you for finishing my sentences
Ashley: It's true love!

The 4th of July!
Yay for the holidays!! Not ONLY did i get friday off, BUT we got to go to the freedom fest and see FIREWORKS! :) The freedom fest was so fun, we found lots of things to keep us busy, walking up and down center street, looking at vendors, listening to music, etc.
First, we rode segways
We watched the parade from my kitchen window, my apartment faces university avenue, which is where the parade started. we not only sat in the comfort of an air conditioned apartment, but we rearranged the furniture a little, and moved the couch right in front of the window so we could sit and watch. and we laughed at the people down below when it started to rain. but it didn't rain for that long...so we didn't feel toooo bad ;) Our ward also had a little bbq that we went to and had VERY yummy hamburgers and watermelon and john ate too many cupcakes ;) We met up with the ward at the field across from the stadium parking lot to watch the fireworks. While we were waiting for the rest of the ward to get there...we had an amusing encounter...
We spread out some blankets and sat down, just sitting an talking. John started to work out a knot in my right shoulder and a little boy, probably 7 or 8, comes over to us and tells us to "stop being gross!" but it didn't end there...he went on for like a minute, telling us we were in a public area and that we shouldn't do stuff like that. So john offered him a massage and he said something like, "ewww no!" and ran away. And we busted up laughing.
The fireworks were awesome and big and LOUD. and by the time they were over, and we got back to foxwood, we were sooo sleepy. so we went to our apartments. and went to bed. it was a good 4th of July.

Supplies!!!!!!!
It's john's birthday today! hurray!!! he is quickly approaching a quarter of a century! (he did just turn 24, you know)
My lovely roommate Natalie helped me decorate :)

SO to celebrate, i threw him a SURPRISE birthday party, complete with a volcano cake:
I have been SOOOOO sneaky the last couple of weeks trying to get this all put together, with the help of his friends, we totally pulled it off!! He was so surprised!!!
John also got some fun gifts, to include a toy gun, complete with sheriff's badge and chopsticks! (a weird combination, i know)

I also found him a game called BANG!, which is like Mafia, with cards...and western style. We played that and Uno with our friends that came to celebrate and i'm quite proud of myself and my sneakiness. :)
And John says it was his best birthday ever :) :)

Our First Marriage Gift!
That's what john said when we got our first wedding gift in the mail yesterday!!! we got rubbermaid storage containers! We came back to my apartment and there was a package for me!! I wasn't expecting anything, but we opened it up and saw the note and - YAY! we are so excited!!Thank you Rosenbergs!!!
MORE good news!!! And a funny story to come! The good news is that I FINALLY have (drum roll please...)

Yes, yes, it says "temporary" but my REAL one is coming in the mail!! in 3 weeks!!!! Hurray! I also drove BY MYSELF for the first time. john let me use the jeep to go to Smith's to pick up some vegetable oil. and i did a FABULOUS parking job, by the way. I told john to worry if i didn't come back in an hour :) i still wonder at how he trusts me with the jeep already ha ha but i made it to Smith's and back and everything and everyone was in ONE piece. :)
Okay, now the funny story:
John has taken to asking me how to say phrases in German. He wanted to know how to say "My name is..." which, in German, goes "Ich heisse..." Last night he was trying to say it and started by saying "Ich...lieben...?" I thought he was going to say something else so i corrected him by saying "Ich liebe. Then he goes "Ich liebe John". I busted up laughing. For those of you that don't know, "lieben" is "to love". John said "I love John". When i could finally get that out without laughing so hard, we both got a kick out of it and i reminded him how to say "ich heisse" :)
Good times, good times.
