For some reason, blogging has not been on the radar recently. I'm here to fix that, at least for now ;)
We have had so much going on the last few months (you know, besides having a baby and all) that's it's hard to keep up!
We had an awesome weekend in August for Jason and Eryn's wedding. I was
completely pleasantly surprised that we were able to enjoy that weekend - with a toddler and a 6 week old, I was prepared to be completely sleep deprived and mostly miserable. Okay, I was still sleep deprived, but it wasn't as bad as I had expected and the boys did amazingly well. My number one travel tip for airplanes with toddlers: just go with Nana and Papa. It's
so not worth it any other way ;) Nathan hung out with my mom the whole time for both flights and Spencer slept pretty much the whole time. Papa was a happy hold-the-baby-helper.
Nathan loved the plane (though to be honest, he was even MORE excited to ride the shuttle bus to and from the airport parking).
There were some pretty awesome trucks to be seen while we waited for everyone to board.
Not pictured: John and I completely passed out and catching flies. ;) We left early that morning, but got to bed super late the night before - add in a couple of night feedings and we were already exhausted!
We were going non-stop once we got to Utah. We checked into our hotel, met up with a friend of mine from high school for a little bit - she has twin boys just a couple of weeks younger than Nathan so it was fun to introduce them and give them a chance to play. Then we headed out to meet Eryn's family for dinner. Right after
that we headed to a park for our family ice cream social. It was so fun to see family and dear friends that we haven't seen in way too long.
We finally got to bed that night - poor Nathan was in bed at almost 9pm Mountain Daylight Time and then up at 4:30am the next morning. Oof. In his defense it was 6:30am at home ;)
We went to the BYU campus that morning to meet up with an old boss of mine from when I worked at Independent Study (I wish I'd gotten a picture!) and then headed over to the bookstore for some souvenir cougar swag. We only had about 20 minutes to shop because then we had to rush back to the hotel, change and get ready for the sealing. We headed up to Salt Lake and got the boys situated in the youth room in the temple waiting area with John's mom and my sister (thanks again Grandma Moffat for coming out to help with the kids!!!) and then it was time for the sealing! It was lovely and it's still kind of weird to think Jason is married now. But he found a good one and we're so happy to have Eryn in the family!
Waiting in the courtyard for the newlyweds to arrive.
Nathan was happy to push his stroller around the whole time.
Loved being able to see Grandma one more time this summer :)
Here they are! YAY!
Yay for love!!!
Group hug! I'm the little head near the bottom ;)
Showing off his new bling.
Our newest family picture!
Yes, I know I'm a total midget next to my brother. It doesn't help that I was wearing flats ;)
After pictures we had to run back to the hotel to grab some dinner (we got our In-n-Out fix - yesssss) and head over to the reception. The reception was lovely, we got to see lots of friends and we sent the couple off in style in a stretch limo amid sparklers.
And then bright and early the next morning we were back on a plane, on our way home. WHEW! This picture pretty much sums up how we were all feeling ;)
Since then we've just been trying to get into the swing of this family-of-four thing. That and having John be the bishop of our ward. No joke peeps, it's been
hard. I'm finally getting out of the funk I've been in for almost a month and a half. But we're slowly getting the hang of it.
We hit another milestone for Nathan recently - a big boy bed! Let me tell you, I was completely terrified to make this change. I was 100% sure that this would be a huge hassle, that he would never stay in his bed, and that my sleep deprivation would triple.
But, miracle of miracles, it's been kind of amazing how well it has gone.
My secret (besides divine intervention)? Awesome bedding. In Nathan's case, Lightning McQueen and Mater sheets. :)
He LOVES his 'McQueen Bed'. We went out several weeks ago to a mattress store in our area that was going out of business and got a steal of a deal on a mattress and box spring. After searching high and low for the perfect Disney's Cars sheets, I finally found some I liked online at Bed Bath and Beyond. We got them in the mail, got them washed that day and set up his new bed in his room while the crib was still in there, with the idea that he could get used to the bed and have a choice on where he wanted to sleep. I thought it would take him some time before he wanted to try the new bed. NOPE. He was allllll about those cars all over his new bed and wanted to sleep in it that night. I was so stinkin' nervous, but we let him.
He didn't come out once.
I know, can we just talk about how seriously amazing that is?! My wild child stays in his bed. Naps were a little tricky the next couple of days, but when he realized he'd have to sleep in his crib again if he got out, he stayed in his bed for naps too. I AM IN SHOCK, PEOPLE! I couldn't have asked for a better transition. It took 2 days, 3 days tops, and it was really just the naps that he came out once. Sooooo grateful!!! We've moved the crib out of his room and are working on getting Spencer transitioned (he's not a fan of the crib so far...) and Nathan
still stays in his bed. He even stays in his bed after he's woken up - he still waits for us to get him! I am soooo not about to tell him he can come out when he wakes up...he'll figure it out eventually ;)
Hmmm, lets see what else have we been up to...
We went berry picking on Labor Day. It was a bit of a gamble, as the berry season was pretty much over and the peach orchards were closed to ripen, but we went anyway and it was really nice because hardly anyone was there and we still managed to pick about 4lbs of berries. YUM! Nathan ate so many that he got to the point where he was like "i'm so done, let's go home" about half an hour before we finished.
We were trying to get him to show off his berry covered face and hands...
My mom came up a couple of times to visit and get her baby fix. Both my mom and sister came up for the General Women's Broadcast for church and it was really nice to have them there. And yes, my mom and I look and act so much alike it's a little scary sometimes ;)
Spencer just keeps getting bigger and cuter! He's finally really filling out and getting some chunky rolls! It was kind of funny at the wedding when people would say things like "So he's 2 weeks old, right?" "Ah, no. He's 6 weeks old. He's just tiny." Props to those women who are pushing out babies the size of my 6 week old. Whew! He's still on the smaller end of the scale, but he's definitely putting on the pounds! (and these pictures are from last month! He's even chunkier now!)
Can we just talk about how this face makes him look JUST like Nathan at this age?!
Oh that smile. I've got another heartbreaker on my hands.
We were down at my parent's for General Conference weekend (which was
amazing, as always). And I'll be posting about a really cool conference
activity board for kids that I made with some friends a few weeks ago.
We also started our King Benjamin tent conference tradition. When the
people came to listen to King Benjamin, they set up their tents facing
the temple so they could see and hear him. So we set up our tent in my
parent's basement facing the TV to listen to our prophet ;)
Nathan got a haircut - and I'm embarrassed to admit I did a terrible job. It's not entirely my fault though. While he stayed mostly still because I let him watch a little show, I was totally blocking his view of the screen when I tried to do his bangs and the front. So it looks totally goofy. Oh well. It's just hair. And it'll grow out, right? ;)
Pre-Haircut
And check out this awesome car that Nana got for him to play with at her house! It's always so exciting to go to Nana's :)
My attempt at hair cutting...
And Spencer can use his bumbo! I love the bumbo seat - it is too fun! After searching quite literally the entire house, we finally found it inside a suitcase in the storage room in the basement. We also found the mega blocks I bought like, a year and a half ago, that have been missing since last summer. They were also in a suitcase. My mom is apparently too clever for her own good. ;)
We were also supposed to have my most favoritest baby/kid consignment sale, but it got postponed due to the crazy weather we were having because of that hurricane (whose name my mom can't pronounce, hee hee). So we'll be back down in a week or so to go to that, can't miss my killer deals!
And that's about it for now! Hopefully I'll be able to stay more of top of things in my little corner of the blogosphere now that Spencer is getting older and starting to establish a schedule...but no promises ;)
