We finished off June with our big trip to Utah to attend a family reunion for John’s maternal side of the family. We decided to go out a few days early to see other friends and family in the area and we crammed as much fun as we could into that week we spent in Utah! (And of course, now that it’s been so long since it actually happened, we’ll see how much I remember… ;) )
Our trip started out sooooooo very early. We ended up getting the cheapest flights we could, so that meant we flew out at 6 in the morning, which meant getting up at 3am to get to the airport on time. We were sooooo very tired, but the boys were champs! I think the novelty of going to the airport and getting on an airplane helped, Nathan had been looking forward to this for weeks! It was a very long travel day, but overall everyone did really well. The boys didn’t sleep until we got to Utah, and then crashed in the car on the way to Provo.
We ended up meeting up with my brother and sister-in-law and John’s brother on BYU campus and we walked around and checked out the bookstore. Eryn, my sister-in-law, works for one of the labs and showed us some science and the boys ran around and just generally enjoyed not having to sit ;)
We had lots planned for our few days in the Provo/Orem area before the family reunion.
We checked out a really awesome playground in Orem called the All Together Playground
We stopped at Bridal Veil falls – the water was FREEZING and the boys (though mostly Spencer) had a hard time deciding whether or not they really wanted to be in the water ;)
We took the boys on the Heber Creeper train – and we met up with Grandma, Grandpa, my brother Jason, John’s Aunt Cathleen and John’s cousin Cody and his family. It was quite the party on the train!

At least Spencer was cooperative!
We ate dinner that night my most favorite place in Provo: Spicy Thai. John and I went to eat there the night that John proposed, so it will always have a special place in my heart. It also has the most amazing Thai food ;)
We also made time to go visit the Draper temple while we were there. That’s where we were married and we haven’t been able to go back in the almost 8 years since. And we tried to get a decent family picture. As you can tell, the boys were thrilled. ;)
Then they enjoyed running around on the temple grounds. There also happened to be a wedding party taking pictures as well, and they found some friends to run around with.
And Grandpa managed to capture this super sweet picture of Nathan saying a little prayer while we were there.
We also went to a really fun splash pad in Bluffdale, but I didn’t get any pictures because I didn’t want my camera to get wet. ;) It was really cool though and the boys loved it!
We also were able to see my uncle and his family and then we had a family dinner with some of John’s family (from the side that wouldn’t be at the reunion). After dinner they pulled out the ATVs and let us take rides. Spencer loved it, despite his face in the pictures, I promise!
Finally it was time to drive down to Cedar City for the family reunion! We stayed in this gorgeous and HUGE vacation home that had a huge backyard with a playground, trampoline, tennis court, and a large covered deck. The kids were in heaven with all the fun things to be done outside!
There were games, lots of good food, and lots of being outside. I think everyone had a great time!
John’s birthday was that weekend, so we got to celebrate his birthday while we were there. It’s not very often you get to have most of your extended family singing Happy Birthday to you!
We also took the kids to an aquatic center out there, which they absolutely loved. But again, no pictures at the water, sorry.
At long last it was time to go home. We made our way back to the Provo/Orem area to meet up with one of my best friends, and we got a little time to chat while our kids played at the All Together Playground again (and I forgot to get a picture!! I’m still kicking myself about that.) and then we finally made it to Salt Lake to have dinner with one of John’s old mission companions and his family before we turned in and got ready for our flight home the next day.
It was a bit of a rough go on the way home – everyone was verrrrry tired, so tempers ran a little short. But we survived and made it home thanks to movies on the iPad ;)
